The single winter bus option for Neuschwanstein Castle lasts 9 hours before the optional Munich walk of 90 minutes. Your coach has toilets. You buy the castle tickets separately from the guide. Prices are the lowest listed, per adult, ages 1 to 99; the hours and the days belong to each option.

Are Neuschwanstein Castle tickets included in the winter bus tour?

Neuschwanstein Castle tickets are excluded from the 9 hour winter bus tour. You pay the guide separately for castle entry, in cash. Ask for the current castle supplement before booking; the quoted amounts differ. The official price list gives €21 for adult admission bought directly, plus €2.50 online.

Winter bus tour or official Neuschwanstein Castle ticket?

The winter bus tour costs €85 per person; Neuschwanstein Castle admission alone is €21 plus €2.50 online on the castle's admission page. With an official ticket, you arrange the train from Munich to Füssen and the hill yourself. The tour adds coach transport and a guide; castle entry remains extra.

Itinerary

1. Discover Bavaria meeting point 15 min

   The meeting stage allows 15 minutes at the Discover Bavaria shop in Munich. Your coach then follows the Romantic Road towards Hohenschwangau for the visit to the castle.

2. Hohenschwangau village 45 min

   Hohenschwangau village has a 45 minute stop with free time for shopping. The village stop gives you time to shop before the castle visit. Your castle ticket is paid separately.

3. Neuschwanstein Castle 240 min

   The Neuschwanstein Castle stage allows 240 minutes around the castle visit. Admission costs extra. The castle's opening hours page gives about 30 minutes for the guided visit inside.

4. English Garden on the optional walk 30 min

   The optional Munich walk includes a 30 minute stop in the English Garden near the Eisbach. You join the city walk after returning from the castle. The walk continues towards the Old Town.

5. Odeonsplatz on the optional walk 15 min

   Odeonsplatz has a 15 minute stop during the optional walk through Munich. Your guide covers the square's history before the city route continues towards the Munich Residence.

6. Munich Residence on the optional walk 10 min

   The Munich Residence has a 10 minute stop during the optional city walk. Your guide discusses the palace's history before the walk continues towards its finish at Marienplatz.

7. Marienplatz on the optional walk 10 min

   Marienplatz is the final stop of the optional walk, with 10 minutes allocated. Your guided day ends in the square. Christmas market visits apply from 27 November to 23 December.

Cancellation policy

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Later cancellations get no refund. Bookings are confirmed instantly. The tour route can change because of weather conditions.

Know before you go

• Bring cash for the separate castle ticket payment to the guide. Sturdy winter shoes are recommended for the steep hill and stairs. The tour requires moderate fitness and is not recommended for travellers with heart complaints or other serious medical conditions.
• Walking from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle takes 30 to 40 minutes on the castle's directions page. Count back: leave time for your climb before the admission slot. The coach does not reach the castle gate.
• The shuttle bus costs €3.50 uphill or €5 return on the Ticket Center's transport page. From P4, allow about 15 minutes aboard and 15 minutes downhill to the castle. The horse carriage costs €8 uphill or €4 downhill. The carriage ride takes about 20 minutes, followed by 10 to 15 minutes uphill on foot.
• Neither the shuttle bus nor the horse carriage has a timetable or accepts reservations. Snow and ice stop the shuttle bus. The Marienbrücke page explains winter bridge closures; the castle tour still runs when the bridge closes.
• The Ticket Center's FAQ allows regular backpacks and handbags, excluding bulky luggage and hiking backpacks. The Ticket Center's family page provides courtyard storage for strollers. Strollers cannot enter the rooms. Photography and filming inside are prohibited by the castle's visitor information page.
• Be in the castle courtyard before the time on your ticket. Late arrivals cannot join the castle tour. Neuschwanstein Castle closes on 1 January and 24, 25 and 31 December under the Ticket Center's opening times page.
