The Ticket Center asks you to arrive in the village 1.5 to 2 hours before your Neuschwanstein Castle tour. Your ticket time is the time at the castle gate. The climb comes first.
The castle's directions page gives about 30 to 40 minutes on foot from the Ticket Center to the entrance of Neuschwanstein Castle. The paved road climbs steeply.
The adult shuttle bus fare is €3.50 uphill or €5 return on the Ticket Center's transport page. The shuttle bus takes about 15 minutes from car park P4 to the Marienbrücke stop. A steep downhill path takes another 15 minutes to the castle gate.
The horse carriage costs €8 uphill and €4 downhill per adult. The ride from opposite Hotel Müller takes about 20 minutes. From the carriage stop, you walk another 10 to 15 minutes uphill to the castle entrance.
The shuttle bus and horse carriage have no fixed timetable or reservations, so waiting at either stop adds time. Allow extra time for security checks at the castle.
Be in the courtyard of the castle before your printed tour time. The castle's opening hours page rules out joining a tour late. Online tickets cannot be exchanged.
Count back: village arrival 1.5 to 2 hours before your tour; arrival at the Ticket Center by 8:00 if you need tickets.
