The adult Neuschwanstein Castle ticket costs €21 at the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau on the castle's admission page. Your ticket: €23.50 bought online, including the €2.50 booking fee, for one guided tour. The Ticket Center sells its tickets for the same day from 8:00.

The official ticket page asks you to reach Hohenschwangau 1.5 to 2 hours before your castle tour. Count back: your castle time, then your arrival in the village and the transfer up.

How do you get up to Neuschwanstein Castle?

Walking from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle takes 30 to 40 minutes on the castle's directions page. The 1.5 km road is steep and paved.

The shuttle bus costs €3.50 uphill or €5 return on the Ticket Center's transport page. From car park P4, the ride to the stop above the castle takes about 15 minutes. The steep walk down to the castle gate takes another 15 minutes.

The horse carriage costs €8 uphill or €4 downhill. The ride from Hotel Müller to the stop below the castle takes about 20 minutes. The remaining uphill walk to the gate takes 10 to 15 minutes.

The public shuttle bus and horse carriage accept no reservations and have no timetable. Included fares cover your ride when the service runs. Private cars cannot reach the castle.

Neuschwanstein Castle opening hours and winter transport

Neuschwanstein Castle opens 10:00–16:00 from 16 October to 27 March, as the Ticket Center's opening times page sets out. Neuschwanstein Castle closes on 1 January and 24, 25 and 31 December.

Snow and ice stop the shuttle bus and can close the bridge, as the Marienbrücke page explains. The castle tours continue when the bridge closes, so losing the viewpoint does not cancel your castle visit.

Linderhof's opening hours page gives a tour length of about 25 minutes for Linderhof Palace. The Venus Grotto closes from 16 October to 14 April. Choose your tour for the palaces if your visit falls in winter.

Neuschwanstein Castle accessibility

The Neuschwanstein Castle lift takes 1 visitor with a wheelchair or walking aid per hour, as the castle's accessibility page explains. Lift access needs an advance reservation.
