Neuschwanstein Castle hours and entry

The castle's opening hours page gives Neuschwanstein Castle hours as 10:00–16:00 from 16 October to 27 March. The castle closes on 1 January and 24, 25 and 31 December. The castle's guided visit lasts about 30 minutes.

Your ticket for the castle is valid only for the printed entry time. Be in the courtyard of the castle before your entry time. Late visitors cannot join their tour of the castle.

The official ticket page asks you to reach Hohenschwangau 1.5 to 2 hours before your tour of the castle. Count back: leave time for the ascent and transport queues before the time on your ticket.

How difficult is the walk up to Neuschwanstein Castle?

The uphill walk from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle takes 30 to 40 minutes, as described on the castle's directions page. The castle's approach is around 1.5 kilometres up a steep paved road.

The Ticket Center's transport page puts the shuttle bus at €3.50 uphill or €5 return. The shuttle bus ride from car park P4 to Marienbrücke takes about 15 minutes. From the shuttle bus stop, the castle's gate is about 15 minutes down a steep path.

The horse carriage to the castle costs €8 uphill and €4 downhill. The horse carriage ride from opposite Hotel Müller takes about 20 minutes. The walk from the horse carriage stop to the castle's gate takes 10 to 15 minutes uphill. The shuttle bus and horse carriage have no timetable and cannot be reserved.

Venus Grotto and winter closures

The Venus Grotto at Linderhof Palace closes from 16 October to 14 April, as listed on Linderhof's opening hours page. The summer Venus Grotto tour lasts about 15 minutes. The Moorish Kiosk is closed for renovation.

Ice and snow can close the bridge without cancelling tours of the castle, as described on the Marienbrücke page. The shuttle bus stops running when roads are icy or snowy. The palace's water features are switched off in winter.
