Is the Venus Grotto included on the Neuschwanstein and Linderhof tour?

The Venus Grotto is included from 15 April to 15 October on Mentor Reisen's 10.5 hour Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace tour. Linderhof's opening hours page lists the grotto as closed in winter. The same coach trip still includes both palace tickets. The guided grotto visit takes about 15 minutes.

Tour or official Neuschwanstein Castle ticket?

The castle's admission page gives €21 per adult plus €2.50 online for Neuschwanstein Castle; Mentor Reisen's tour costs €195 per adult. The tour adds the Munich coach and admission to the palace, with the Venus Grotto in summer. Independent visitors arrange the train from Munich to Füssen, local bus and hill themselves.

Itinerary

1. Venus Grotto approach 20 min

   The summer walk from Linderhof's car park to the Venus Grotto takes about 20 minutes uphill. The guided grotto visit then lasts about 15 minutes. Grotto admission is included from 15 April to 15 October.

2. Linderhof Palace 90 min

   Linderhof Palace has a 90 minute stop with admission included. The palace's guided tour takes about 25 minutes. The remaining stop allows time in the gardens around your entry slot.

3. Oberammergau

   Oberammergau is a drive through stop on Mentor Reisen's 10.5 hour route. The coach tours the village between the palace and Hohenschwangau. You see the village from the coach.

4. Marienbrücke 15 min

   Marienbrücke has a planned 15 minute visit during your free time in Hohenschwangau. The bridge remains optional. Your guide collects the castle tickets before the free time begins.

5. Neuschwanstein Castle 240 min

   The Neuschwanstein Castle stop allows 240 minutes around the castle visit and ascent. The interior tour lasts about 30 minutes on the castle's opening hours page. Your guide supplies the entry time.

Know before you go

• The official ticket page asks for arrival in Hohenschwangau 1.5 to 2 hours before your Neuschwanstein Castle tour. Be in the courtyard before your ticket time. Count back: allow the climb and any queue before your castle entry time.
• The castle's directions page gives 30 to 40 minutes uphill from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle. The shuttle bus costs €3.50 uphill or €5 return on the Ticket Center's transport page. The bus from P4 takes about 15 minutes, then leaves a steep 15 minute walk downhill to the castle.
• The horse carriage to Neuschwanstein Castle costs €8 uphill or €4 downhill, paid separately from your coach tour. The ride from Hotel Müller takes about 20 minutes, followed by 10 to 15 minutes uphill on foot to the castle. The shuttle bus and horse carriage have no fixed timetable or reservations.
• The Ticket Center's FAQ permits regular backpacks and handbags, while excluding bulky luggage and hiking backpacks. Strollers stay in the courtyard storage room under the Ticket Center's family page rules. The castle's visitor information page prohibits photography and filming inside the castle.
• The tour requires moderate fitness for the climbs and castle stairs. Bring cash for the shuttle bus or horse carriage. Cancellation gives a full refund at least 24 hours before departure.
• The Marienbrücke page describes temporary bridge closures with winter snow or ice. The shuttle bus also stops running with snow or ice on the road. Your castle visit can still go ahead when the bridge closes.
