Know before you go
- Neuschwanstein Castle's interior tour lasts about 30 minutes on the castle's opening hours page. Be in the courtyard before your admission time. Late arrivals cannot join the tour.
- Walking from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle takes 30 to 40 minutes uphill. The shuttle bus ride from P4 takes about 15 minutes. Skiptors discourages this tour during pregnancy or with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
- The Ticket Center's transport page gives public fares: shuttle bus €3.50 uphill or €5 return; horse carriage €8 uphill or €4 downhill. Neither service has a timetable or reservations. The carriage takes about 20 minutes, then 10 to 15 minutes uphill on foot to the castle.
- Snow or ice stops the shuttle bus and can close the bridge in winter, as the Marienbrücke page explains. A closed bridge does not close the castle.
- Regular size backpacks and handbags are allowed by the Ticket Center's FAQ; bulky luggage and hiking backpacks are excluded. Strollers can be left in the courtyard's designated room, as the Ticket Center's family page explains.
- Photography and filming inside Neuschwanstein Castle are prohibited on the castle's visitor information page. Exterior photographs for private use are allowed. Parking fees are excluded from the Skiptors tour.
