Know before you go

  • Be in the castle courtyard before the time on your ticket. Late arrivals cannot join the castle tour. The private guide accompanies the day, while the interior visit follows the castle's timed tour procedure.
  • The walk from the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau to Neuschwanstein Castle takes 30 to 40 minutes on the castle's directions page. A shuttle bus or horse carriage ride uphill is included. Both leave a walk to the gate.
  • The public shuttle bus fare is €3.50 uphill or €5 return on the Ticket Center's transport page. The ride from P4 takes about 15 minutes. The steep walk from the upper stop to the castle takes another 15 minutes.
  • Local horse carriage fares are €8 uphill and €4 downhill, with a ride of about 20 minutes. The carriage stop leaves 10 to 15 minutes uphill on foot. Neither the carriage nor the shuttle bus has a timetable or accepts reservations.
  • The Ticket Center's FAQ allows regular backpacks and handbags, excluding bulky luggage and hiking backpacks. The Ticket Center's family page provides courtyard storage for strollers. Strollers cannot enter the rooms. Photography and filming inside are prohibited by the castle's visitor information page.
  • In winter, the Marienbrücke page warns of bridge closures during snow and ice; the shuttle bus also stops in those conditions. The tour requires moderate fitness. The day is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

From the operator

In oakTree StoryTours's own words, from the listing.

Go beyond the ordinary. Most visitors rush through Neuschwanstein, missing its hidden stories. This tour is different.

With my doctorate in mythology, discover the medieval sagas painted on the castle walls. With my 32 years as a master storyteller, hear Ludwig’s tale in a way that moves you. As a trained opera singer, learn from me how Wagner’s music shaped the castle’s magic.

Other tours herd fifty people onto a bus. With my tour, your group is the only one along—a fully private experience. With my attention to detail, everything is customized for you. Just relax and enjoy.

Other private tours rely on heavy SUVs to drive to the castle, adding to environmental strain in the region. This tour glides through the Bavarian countryside in a First-Class train—combining luxury with sustainability.

Unlike standard tours, this is an immersive journey. Come with me, and experience the mystery of Neuschwanstein’s untold stories.
